I had a workshop for two happy sisters from the neighboring town.
There are quite a lot of indigo dyeing studios in Tokushima compared to other prefectures, but indigo dyeing is not so popular among them.
One sister told me that she had dyed a handkerchief when she was in an elementary school and the other sister had had no experience for dyeing.
I am so glad that they were interested in indigo dyeing at my studio.
This workshop is a private class, so we had enough time to choose and experience.
There are many ways to do shibori, Japan's unique tie-dyeing, such stitching, folding, twisting, compressing cloth, and batik, too.
I want them to do more authentic shibori, which is nui-shibori using threads and needles, so I showed them hotaru shibori and makiage shibori. As soon as I explained them how to make, they said they wanted to do the shibori.

Since they know how to sew, it was not so difficult to do shibori, but I told them some tips to get a good result.
Ialso told them how to dye evenly. They followed my instruction very well and dipped the fabrics into the indigo liquid gently. During the time they dye, I explained the process from indigo seeds to dye and how precious the sukumo is. They understood it well and dye theirs gently. I appreciated their manner very much.
After dipping 10 times, it was time to remove the threads.
They were excited to see the final result with happy simles.
What a great work they did!!!!

After the workshop I told them how to take care of the vat. I showed them that I gave some lye and lime to the vat. They experienced to feel the sukumo in the bottom of the vat through a bamboo stick.( the photo on the top).
I had a very good time with them.
This kind of private workshop is my recommendation to you.
